I HAVE to stain my hardwood (currently red oak) to a very dark color. Since I will not be replacing them with something with less grain in the wood - does anyone have any suggestions about a good mix of stain to get that dark almost black floor color??

Oh my goodness! What a wonderful idea you have, talk about paying it forward. Sadly I don't have a clue about your floors, sorry. But to answer your question about the cabinets. No i didn't take them off. Only because it took me forever. If I could have done it over a weekend I totally would have taken the doors off. good luck! s
